Clouds of Haleakala
Standing in the dark in the middle of a rain cloud
sideways rain at ten-thousand feet slapping my face
Waiting, waiting for sunrise
Angry visitors give up, go home, curse the clouds
We wait, are rewarded with beauty of sparkling rays
streaming God’s glory

I decided to write a second more positive Quadrille for dVerse Poets Pub today. The word to include is cloud, which made me think of being in the midst of a cloud waiting for sunrise on Mt. Haleakala, Maui.
Beautiful.
Thanks.
So wonderful when you can wait and see beauty reveal itself :o)
There are those moments both in creation and in Spirit when God just seems to break through and we recognize him even more because of what was absent. Too bad for those who don’t have the patience to wait.
sparkling rays streaming God’s glory… Amen! Beautifully penned 🙂
Thanks.
Why would someone climb all that way to be angry at the clouds?
It’s a 45 minute drive from sea level to the top of Haleakala. No climbing involved. But still, I don’t understand why they were so angry but the guy standing next to me repeated at least 3 times “I’m so angry” before they left.
I was going to say drive, but that lacks poetic resonance. 🙂
The poetics of Haleakala are in the sunset, sunrise, and the fact that you can go from sea level to 10,000 feet in 45 minutes. 😉
The sun always rises right. Worth the wait I’m sure.
That’s what we figured. I was astounded by the people who left angry that the sun didn’t “rise” right on schedule because of the clouds. They missed a glorious sight.
As a photographer I have learned how to wait. Always worth it.
And that must have been a magical sight, worthy of the wait ~
It was beautiful! This is not the best picture, just the only one I had access to right now.
Waiting for sunrise is a nice image. It has hope.
This is full of strength and God’s glory, Linda. Well done for standing up to that rain cloud!
It was cold, too. Only 47 degrees. But it was worth it.
I enjoy a chilly blast – it wakes me up and I’m ready for anything!
Fantastic. I’m glad you got your sunrise – you deserved it! Never leave while there’s still hope.
And there’s always hope!
Beautiful… the sun shining through
