May Day

Spring has sprung
the flowers have bloomed
winter cold
is all but doomed

May has arrived
with its promising days
of beauty and fun
from the sun’s warm rays

This first day of May
brings me a smile
with its sweet pledge
winter’s gone for awhile

The End Begins

April has come to an end
And the rain it did send
Promises many flowers will bloom
And adorable hummingbirds to zoom
From blossom to colorful blossom
Spring is awesome

In the Garden

Daffodils bloom
in the garden today
Bluebell buds
making their way

Poking up through
soaked spring earth
Early season beauty
of infinite worth

Hopefully there’ll be
more flowers than weeds

An Angel’s Life

I’ve had a blessed life
though I didn’t always
think it would be so

My first memory
is praying for the
frantic Christmas shoppers
at Costco, standing high on a shelf
It felt weird to look down
on the carts filled
with unnecessary things
while praying for their souls

At last I was taken home
by a nice family
placed in a garden corner
I was blessed with the honor
of praying over the nativity,
over the Holy Child
as the snow drifted down

January came
and the nativity was taken away
Long, cold days followed
and I feared the dreary days ahead
The family would dart out the front door
to quickly get into their cars
and drive away, gone all day
I prayed for their safe return

I should have known
that each season passes to the next
Winter gave way to spring and
the family planted flowers,
the azalea bush bloomed,
and I was blessed once again
with the honor of praying
over what God had created
Never shall I despair again

Lillian is tending the bar at dVerse Poets Pub today for Poetics and is thinking about statues. One of the options she offered is to write from the point of view of a statue, so I’ve written from the point of view of the angel statue in my front yard.

April’s Almost Gone

Iris are blooming
New flowers are in their pots
The rain comes and goes
April has flown by so fast
May flowers and sun at last

April Showers Bring May Flowers

The skies are gray
But not ominous
Bring life-giving rain
The promise of
Colorful blooms
Greens of summer
Sunny days ahead

Pollen — An Elfje

Yellow
Pollen blanket
Covers every surface
Makes my eyes water

Sevenling: The Dogwood’s In Bloom

The dogwood’s in bloom,
the lilacs waft their intoxicating scent,
the pink azalea brightens the yard

Requiring more cultivation,
the lantana spreads it’s tiny flowers,
the snapdragons roar, and million bells ring

. . . oh the loveliness of spring

It’s such a beautiful sunny day here in Oregon, I decided to write a second poem combining the Sevenling prompt from dVerse Poets Pub yesterday with the flower prompt from NaPoWriMo this morning.

The Wild Blue Yonder

Today the sun is shining bright
The sky is cerulean blue
Spring flowers bloom ev’rywhere

I see that God is ev’rywhere
Because of His countenance bright
My spirit is sunny, not blue

Honesty of the heavens blue
Reveals God’s mercy ev’rywhere
Hope of a future so bright

Yonder bright, deepest blue is ev’rywhere

The NaPoWriMo optional prompt today is to write a Tritina, which is like half a Sestina. Well, I love the Sestina, but writing one can take the better part of a day or two. The Tritina is much more manageable.

Seasons

My favorite thing
about this season called spring
is that it means soon
summer and June
will surely arrive
when I most thrive

But as for this pollen
that has everywhere fallen
I could easily skip
the post-nasal drip
the itchy dry eyes
and weeds that arise

Oh spring hurry past
to summer at last
then summer hold tight
to the long days, short nights
keep fall at bay
so winter will stay away
